For years, much of my writing on A Sheep No More has focused on the problems surrounding us. This project came from a different place. I wanted to create something that could help children understand their bodies early, before they learn to ignore their signals or view their bodies as something working against them.
After two years of imagination, development, and love, the first two books from The Body Buddies series are now available on Amazon.
Most kids learn about the heart, lungs, and stomach, but few hear what happens to the waste their cells make. This story follows the journey inside the body’s tiniest parts. Blood delivers what cells need, cells use those supplies and make waste as they work, and the lymphatic system helps carry that waste away.
My Cells Poop & Pee … Just Like ME! teaches children about their cells, blood, and lymphatic system through colorful characters working together inside their Body House.
Inside the Body House, the cells are the rooms. Celly and Shelly represent those cells and help children understand what happens inside each tiny room.
Bud the Blood represents the kitchen and delivery system. He carries oxygen, water, and nutrients through the bloodstream and delivers them to the cells.
Lynn, Patrick, and the Lymphettes represent the bathroom and cleanup system. They collect the cellular waste and carry it away, helping keep every room in the Body House clean.

This simple comparison makes complicated body systems easier for young children to understand and remember. Through the story’s adventures, children also see how movement, hydration, colorful foods, and play help their Body Buddies do their jobs.
Instead of simply telling children to drink water, eat healthy foods, or move their bodies, the story gives them a reason. Their choices help the little team working inside them every day.
The companion Body Buddies Coloring and Activity Book gives children another way to connect with the characters. Its 32 pages include coloring pages, matching activities, a maze, and a scavenger hunt designed to make learning playful and memorable.
My goal is to help children develop body literacy and a loving relationship with the bodies they will live in for their entire lives. Future Body Buddies books will introduce fascia and the vagus nerve, continuing the message that the body is not the enemy. Tightness, fear, discomfort, and other sensations can be signals from a Body House trying to communicate and protect itself.
These books are the beginning of something very close to my heart. I hope the Body Buddies help children stay curious, listen to their bodies, and understand that caring for themselves also means caring for the tiny team inside them.
